Philomène is a Montreal born and raised ceramic artist who shares her time between the Yukon and Quebec. Her studio is located in Dawson City, Yukon Territory, on the traditional and contemporary lands of the Tr’ondëk Hwëchin. The 16′ x 9′ wooden studio is completely off-grid and surrounded by the forest. This project in nature is a true labor of love.
Designed to be unique, functional pieces with a pop of color, Philomène’s work is heavily influenced and inspired by the natural landscape and her love for travels. Her practice, mostly wheel-thrown, is an exploration of forms, colours and textures, aiming to create objects that offer the joy of functional art. Philo has an ongoing series of hand-built vases that highlight her interest in flora, where playfulness comes into place; nothing is off limits.
Philo spent last winter creating as part of an artists’ collective in Montreal, exploring her creativity through different projects, working with different types of clays, developing new glazes and pushing her skills to a new level. Feeling inspired by her artistic practice, she wants to exhibit her work outside the Yukon and be part of First Pick Handmade 2024.
